JAPANESE MAPLE - ACER SHIRASAWANUM JORDAN

Now then here is a right beauty! No its leaves are not white, or variegated, or light pink or shrimp pink and nor do they have red or orange tips to them! Nor is its bark red in colour or like that of paper!

However what this is is a fantastic shade of green with stunningly shaped leaves and a great shape overall! This one you will see in the video below has produced flowers this year!

A word of warning that this particular maple is a very big one! Once again it gets big if you let it! Also this was another one that was not only in a bad state but was in a very bad state indeed when I got it and I was not entirely convinced that it would last until spring! I have had this one three years now.

Right now I always get confused with this species and japonicum as they have the word Moon in their common names. I always think of this one as the Full Moon Maple due to its less dissected leaves and the japonicum as the Half Moon Maple. But I think it might be the other way around? Lol!

ACER SHIRASAWANUM AND DEALING WITH APHIDS

Oddly this was so sensitive when I bought it and yes it was a mess.

The following year it was attacked my aphids and biy did it complain about that too!

But the last year and this year it is going nuts.

Annoyingly aphids may or may NOT be a problem as they seem to make a beeline for particular maples and yet not touch the ones next to it?!

This is one they like but I am very careful about spraying Maples leaves with anything and for the love of God do not buy aphid killer from the 99p store and spray it on these guys!

I use Bug Clear for flowers and I mix it with rain water, this way I know what is in it and it works a treat. I also use Fungus Clear by the same manufacturer too and have done a couple of years now and would not use anything else.

I have used Fungus Clear to treat the MOULDY Acers I ended up buying and for Black-Spot on Roses.

Again these are only mixed with rain water.

ACER SHIRASAWANUM JORDAN

I know you will not believe it but YES this is my Acer Shirasawanum from my earlier post just after I first bought it, lol.

Yes it did look sorry for itself and yes it did look like it was done for, lol.

Eh? What do you mean I did not do a post of my Shirasawanum?! I only just started?!

Hmm well maybe I didn't I cannot recall and cannot look so here are three new pictures of that same Japanese Maple that was about 18 inches high when I bought it....

Without actually measuring it and it is now mid May 2013 I would guess it is somwhere between 66 and 72 inches tall and looking like an overgrown Bonsai Tree, lol.

Yes OK it had been intended to look a little Bonsai in shape, lol.
