ACER PALMATUM DUNNONO

I named this one and is my claim to fame...

...except I am the only one that knows about it and that is because I called it that because when I bought it there was no name and I just did not dunnono what it was?!

GROAN! Yes OK ... TERRIBLE.

Actually I realised that this started out life as something like a Shin Deshojo but a sucker had outgrown it. A sucker is a branch normally from below the graft of a cultivate that is the original plant.

Oh for the record there is a Deshojo and the woed 'Shin' means new or better, cannot remember, lol.

This is now 7 feet tall or more!

ACER SHIRASAWANUM JORDAN

I know you will not believe it but YES this is my Acer Shirasawanum from my earlier post just after I first bought it, lol.

Yes it did look sorry for itself and yes it did look like it was done for, lol.

Eh? What do you mean I did not do a post of my Shirasawanum?! I only just started?!

Hmm well maybe I didn't I cannot recall and cannot look so here are three new pictures of that same Japanese Maple that was about 18 inches high when I bought it....

Without actually measuring it and it is now mid May 2013 I would guess it is somwhere between 66 and 72 inches tall and looking like an overgrown Bonsai Tree, lol.

Yes OK it had been intended to look a little Bonsai in shape, lol.

ACER PALMATUN SHIRAZZ

I found some old and rather quite terrible photos of my maples a few years back in the early days of collecting them.

Apologies for the pictures the camera phone was not brilliant and playing up and I could barely get a half decent photo out of it, lol.

However I think the stunning colours in the photos of my Shirazz will make you impatient for up to date pictures with my latest camera, lol.

VIDEO - ACER PALMATUM KAORI NISHIKI

One of the variegated maples with a deep shrimp pink colour.

Amyone hwho has seen the 'Butterfly' variety will ot it looks like that but Butterfly has no pink. There are a whole list of varieties frm Butterfly but with really deep pinks of different shades...

Beni Schichihenge
Taylor (completely and very light off white pink)

and sevral others whose names escape me but I will get around to those in time.

VIDEO - ACER PALMATUM BENI MAIKO

A nice deep red maple this one. The leaves eventually turn green in time but new ones always first appear red. Similar to the Deshojos.

Does not grow to humongous proportions and also a slow grower and this is a four year old seedling, lol.

VIDEO - ACER PALMATUM TSUMA GAKI (PAINTED FINGERNAILS)

One of the most striking Japanese Maples I have is this Tsuma Gaki.

Certainly when it produces its first leaves they are a brilliant jade colour, darkened off in this video I am afraid, and have this drooping or weeping habit not seen in any of my others?!

VIDEO - ACER JAPONICUM HALF MOON MAPLE

My Half Moon Maple and as I am rubbish with common names and only used to latin names I probably have this common name mixed up with the Full Moon Maple of Acer Shirasawanum?!

LMAO.

Brilliant fiery reds and oranges in autumn

VIDEO - ACER PALMATUM DISSECTUM SEIRYU

Acer palmatum dissectum Seiryu.

One of the more beautiful dissectums and a nice bright orange in autumn, as you will see in time.

This one is said to take more sunlight than your average Acers and it certainly seems to be true of this one!

My Acer shirasawanum Jordan

A beautiful shade of green with a great shape to it and looking like a giant Bonsai!

ACER PALMATUM - TSUMA GAKI (Painted Fingernails)

Well I have been threatening to start another blog and this one was always going to be a favourite!

My collection of Japanese Maples of different varieties and amazing colours and one day hope to have my own small forest of dazzling colour to walk through.

Many people have difficulties with these trees purely because and like Orchids there are a few simple rules you just need to adhere to. That I will get around to in my next few posts but for now...

TSUMA GAKI (translated means Painted Fingernails)

A little sensitive and tricky. Large leaves that are a beautiful jade green and quite large and tipped with red.

These are photos recently taken and the green will darken somewhat and have indeed done so already.

My one is about two to three feet tall. Was a bit neglected last year as were all my Maples due to things I could not avoid and took up a great deal of my time.

I will probably pick up a few more varieties this year which I have not done for a couple of years and I have over 20 of them currently.
